Our Story

From a Small Fellowship to a Thriving Youth Church

Aldersgate Youth Service was born out of a vision to give young people a worship experience tailored to their needs. In August 2020, as churches resumed after COVID-19 restrictions, a group of young people aged 16 and above began gathering for fellowship at the Aldersgate Society in Winger, Kasoa. The service started with just 25 members.

Originally called the Young Wesleyans — with the slogan "Grow Right for God" — the group was carved out of the Children's Ministry to allow for more focused teaching and spiritual development. After nearly two years of growth and extensive consultations, the service formally became the Aldersgate Youth Service (AYS) on 1st May 2022.

Today, AYS meets every Sunday from 7:00 AM to 8:45 AM, preceded by a Bible Class from 7:00 – 7:30 AM. With over 140 members drawn from secondary schools, tertiary institutions, apprenticeships, and the working class, AYS is a vibrant community of faith rooted in Methodist tradition.

What We Stand For

Our Mission & Vision

Our Mission

To equip the church for ministry to the world through the demonstration of Christian faith and love — providing an avenue for worship suited to the needs of young people, and creating spaces for them to hone their gifts in serving in the Lord's vineyard.

Our Vision

To be a vibrant, Christ-centred, Spirit-led community for the holistic transformation of society — nurturing and grooming young people into mature, committed Christians and staunch Methodists who will support the growth of the Aldersgate Society and the broader Church.

Our Core Objectives

Provide a worship experience suited to the needs of young people

Create opportunities for young people to discover and hone their gifts

Develop a comprehensive programme for discipleship and counselling

Build committed Christians and staunch Methodists through mentorship

Stem the tide of young Methodists leaving for other denominations

Transform fellowship groups into Bible Classes for deeper spiritual formation

How We Got Here

Our Journey

March – June 2020

Online Church During COVID-19

As churches closed due to the pandemic, effective online services were held to keep the community connected in faith.

16th August 2020

The 16+ Service Begins

A service for young people aged 16 and above started at the Aldersgate Society, carved out of the Children's Ministry to allow for more effective teaching. It began with about 25 members meeting from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM.

2021

Renamed the "Young Wesleyans"

The group was renamed the Young Wesleyans to give members a stronger sense of identity and purpose, with the motto "Grow Right for God." Plans were also set in motion to transition to an early morning service time.

1st May 2022

Aldersgate Youth Service Officially Launched

After extensive stakeholder consultations, the Young Wesleyans officially became the Aldersgate Youth Service. The maiden service was attended by 24 persons and the new time of 7:00 AM was adopted. AYS is a Special Young People's Service under Standing Order 341 of the Constitution of the Methodist Church Ghana.

2022 – 2024

Growth & Programmes

AYS established five fellowship groups, launched the AYS Seminar Series, and hosted multiple editions of the Aldersgate Youth and Empowerment Summit (A-YES). The 5th edition of A-YES in December 2024 was the first residential summit, held at the Pentecost Convention Centre with 69 participants.
